Once again I'll stand by MrT.....keep in mind if your light is on, your car needs to be serviced first.....

Go get the vehicle scanned for free at an Advance Auto or auto Zone so you know what the codes stored are. They can they clear the codes. If the codes come back right away they are hard set codes and need to be addressed right away. If the codes come back in several drive cycles have a mechanic recommend what repairs are needed.

On GM vehicles
Switch the key to the ON position
Depress the accelerator pedal 3 time within 5 seconds
Switch key to OFF, then start the vehicle

You need a code reader that can be bought for about $40 at the auto chain stores. Reading the directions is best, but simply find the OBD (oN bOARD dIAGNOSTICS) generation II, plug under the dash. Plug in you reader, and if your car has set a code, you will see it displayed. You may want to write it down, and then press the "erase" button in the reader to erase the light. You can google the code and find out if you need to take action.

If your yellow check engine light is on, your car's owner's manual tells you to get the computer error codes read out and diagnosed to determine what problem caused the light to come on. http://www.autozone.com will read out the codes for you at one of their parts stores or you can buy your own code reader. Disconnect one battery cable and reconnect, but you'll lose your radio presets etc. and the light will come back on if you have a problem.

It means the engine computer has detected a problem. Go to one of the major auto parts dealers and ask them to read the engine computer for errors and they will give you a general idea of what the problem is.
