If you file suit, he will be obligated to disclose his insurance information.

Are you sure that you have a prima facie case for negligence? If you were aware of the defect in the porch, you may be liable for your own medical expenses in some jurisdictions. Are you the tenant, or were you visiting a friend? Is the porch a common area for several tenants, or is it part of a single unit? Different rules govern different situations, and the fact that he was aware of a defect does not necessarily mean that he is guilty of negligence.

The best thing to do is take him to small claims court. The problem with that is can you prove he was supposed to fix the porch? It should be in your lease that the landlord makes reported repairs. Did you notify him in writing that the porch needed fixing?
Meanwhile make a good faith effort to start paying the bills. $5 per month will keep them from taking you to court.

File a claim through small claims court. The insurance company will show up very fast.

I say go to a small claims court.. If he is hiding it now, he probably won't be easily tricked nto telling you.. And unless you want to commit a crime by breaking and entering his office and checking which insurance he has I don't think you will find out without higher authority. I hope everything works out in your favor!
