actually i know from his personal diary that previously he faced so many problems in life,he struggled a lot to live.even when he want some help from his close relatives they all deny him, although he is a scholar he can't complete his study due to financial problems.and peraphs he is feeling that he can't fulfil his dreams at all.now he is a young man working in a small company.he always makes himself busy in office works.though he clearly mentioned in his diary that he wants a good friend,he keeps himself far from others.he talks less and only on office matters only , and he seems angry if somebody wants to know about his personal history or somebody asks him a question about his personal life.he talks with me but only general matters. not about his personal life.
as a friend what should i do?

no he is not a mental patient and this sounds like a very negative attitude towards someone you say is your friend.
Perhaps he is suffering with depression, have you discussed with him why he feels this way, it would be the quickest way to find out why....and that could lead to a conversation about maybe getting some help...which is what a true friend would do. Not try to negatively stereotype him as a mental patient.

You cannot consider him "a mental patient" as the definition of a mental patient is someone who's in a mental hospital.

You may honestly consider him to be mentally unstable.

Who do you want to have consult a doctor? you or him? If you want him to do so, encourage him to talk to a psychologist to get more comfortable with what is bothering him. "You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink.", which means you cannot force him to go to the doctor or to heal.

If you believe he's dangerous or a threat to himself or others, then talk to a school counselor or someone who can guide and advise.

He is probably suffering from some mental stress, but all YOU can do is show him you care about him as a person and as a friend.

Yes he has a different way of handling life

Try and become him as an actor would

Think as he does what is it that people around him criticize him for

Then you may see that it is people that he is with that has made him like he is

Strange but for there to be a burn on the skin there has to be a hot spot first
