I know there are a number of private (membership-based) clubs in the city of Boston, any ideas on what types of licensing is required?

If Mass has an Alcohol ,Tobacco,and Firearms Division ,then you need a liquor license,and go in person to your County Clerk to see what you need to get permits. Check with Mass. State Comptroller's Office to register your business with state.

Try talking to the office of your city councilor. They know the ins and outs of those activities and are always looking to do something for constituents so that they will owe them come next election.

Your local SCORE office will have all the information you need. They can also provide you with all the requirements needed for the type of business you are trying to open
