because all that pops up is a box that says brodboud connection and i hit connect and it says error

You need to have an ISP (Internet Service Provider) and that you have to pay for.

The Internet is free. The connection cost.

The short answer is you don't.

The long answer is that you can go to some locations (many coffee houses have wireless connections that you can tap into and use sometimes for a fee and sometimes for free) many libraries also have a wireless network that will allow you to access the internet and again may or maynot be free.

It would depend on where you live. Some cities/towns have free "Hotspots" that allow you to connect for free. Most airports now make you pay. I found a bit of info. at my source useful.
