Both are fictional, however angels are in the bible, while fairies are not.

Hmm..Well according to Persian mythology, faeries (peris) are the descendants of fallen angels. But that's just mythology.
Kinda interesting though...
Also read the wiki links below if you want a thorough explanation of angels and faeries.
It may also help if you were more specific about what the debate was about. I fail to see what there is to debate with the differences between the two.
One is mythological, the other has mythological aspects as well but is also tied into religious beliefs.
It's really not much of a debate if all you need is the differences.
Also I think it's fairly safe to say who will win this debate.

Fairies are from Celtic mythology, and are typically mischievous, and small. They are called the "fair folk," and some will play harmless pranks on humans. Others are not so harmless, however, but all appreciate nature. They are immortal as well. Angels are creations of God. We do not become angels when we die--angels are a separate race. They dwell in Heaven with God, and work as his aids and messengers, particularly between God and man. One third of the angels, however, rebelled against God in the beginning, and have therefore become demons. Hope this helps. :) Good luck!

An angel is an immortal being, attendant upon God; a very kind and lovable person or a helping or guiding spirit.
A fairy is a tiny imaginary being able to do good or ill.
The differences are that an angel is always good. Angels are from heaven. Fairies are essentially of the earth. Angels only do good deeds, but fairies are capable of both good and bad.
You might be able to argue the existence of both.

There are many types of Fairy, Fairyfolk have appeared in various Legends, tales and Folklore for thousands of years
The word Angel, translates as Messenger, that is all it means, romantic images of white feathers and blond hair came later

A fairy is an immaterial being not considered real in Christian, Jewish and Moslem religions. It dates back from pagan times. It intervenes in fairy tales, tales for children. It can be mischievous. It's supposed to have magic powers. I think it's usually female, and small, smaller than a human being.
Angels are usually represented with wings similar to swan wings, although religions regard them as invisible and non material. They're conceived as luminous beings. There are children who see them near their bed at night from time to time, especially when they need being reassured or consoled.
Fairies are transparent, with a smallish human form and no wing. Nobody ever reports seeing them. It's considered that they have no reality, exist only in stories.

A fairy is a little elf type thing that lives under mushrooms at the bottom of the garden and it casts spells.
An angel is from heaven and we all have a guardian angel who looks after us when we are in trouble.
