Yes off course it would if you would carve the X through the bottom!
Finding the boat under the water will be more difficult but you can always use a buoy to mark it...
Question is, how will you get from the boat to the shore and back without getting wet...

nah...i'd cut one out of cardboard and paint it neon orange.Then i'd hang it from a skyhook over that spot so that i could find it in the day or night.It would depend on who and what he looked like if i decided to go at night time or day time.Always take the ugly guys at night so u can turn off the light and it makes putting the bobber on his line a lot easier.Not to mention holding his pole for him.

Actually I would make a big sign saying "Fish here" and drive the signpost into the bottom of the boat.
