Master both and use them at will. It's fun to sound native to two different places and that exotic accent (whichever one is the most different from where ever you happen to be at the moment) tends to be well liked and attractive.

That's funny, if Americans heard your friends speak in their "accent," they would probably not even hear anything American in it.
Saying someone speaks in an American accent or an English accent is like saying someone speaks Asian. It's nonsensical. I'd be interested to know which American accent they have decided to mimic and why. When you are formally taught a particular English accent at school, it's usually a nonregional dialect. So I'd say stick with your original accent so you don't end up sounding ridiculous like your friends.

How can someone with an "American" accent say that someone speaking with an "English" accent sounds weird?
If one listens (with both ears, instead of prejudice), you will hear many, many different American and English accents.
Let's be honest, if you're speaking English as a second or third language, you're doing better than most Americans or English who can only speak their own language.
So, be yourself. It's what you say, that's important, not the accent with which you speak it.

And you call these people FRIENDS, I will put this the POLITE way, These so called friends are being very silly, When it comes to finding a job, later in life, you will be better equipped in this Country to apply for it, in an English speaking accent, even if these, (so called friends) go to America to work, it will not go down well, when saying, I come from England, and then speaking in an American accent THEY WILL NOT APPRECIATE IT, & the same goes for here as well.

where do you come from or live, why do the people in your school speak with two different accents. Speak the way you learned to speak, if they ask why you're talking like that, then say it's just your accent and that you speak british.

You are who you are.
I used to speak with a Latvian accent at school to begin with and the bullying I got from teachers and pupils and their parents alike was beyond belief and comprehension.
I am of an age when I first went to school the second world war was still fresh in peoples' minds and they accused me of being a nazi. I was told that I should learn to speak with an English accent. This put me off learning Latvian for many years and I feel that I lost out because I would refuse to listen to it, and my father was just as bad, foreign language was banned in our family.
Many, not all, people are hypocrites and bigots. They are to be pitied. Speak the way you speak. That is who you are now. There is nothing worse than someone trying to pretend to be who they are not.

Hi there,
who cares about the American accent, it's just not English it's stupid.
The Americans borrow English words, muck them up and then give them back in stupid, unhumorous sitcoms.
ie a bunch of people???????
Don't talk American you won't get anywhere in life

Use which one suits YOU best, and just tell your friends you are more comfortable with the Brit accent, and why does it matter if you are neither? Are you Brit or American? I just think you should not try to please others, because then you lose who you really are.
