My 7 month old has problems with constipation, she has been to many Dr's and there is no medical reason, they just said to use prune juice and foods higher in fiber. My question is... which of the cereals is highest in fiber? Oatmeal? Barley? or the Mixed Oats? I can check next time I go to the grocery store, I was just curious if any of those helped anyone else?

Try dark Karo Syrup in formula about 1teasp per 6oz. (Only once a day) You can get it at any grocery store. Of coarse you might want to check with Dr. first.

My daughter has the same problem. Naturally we tried giving her oatmeal cereal and staying away from the rice cereal.

We fed her the oatmeal for breakfast as well as a snack before bedtime.Lots of blueberries, prunes were introduced as well. Prune juice helped a bit, we mixed it with the cereal so she would take it. Fed her lots of green veggies with high fibre content and we tried to stay away from binding foods like banana's & apple sauce and we fed dairy products but not excessively.

You should try introducing a bit more water into her diet, an extra sip here and there should do it. Water will help soften things up.

Unfortunately, just doing these things did not help my daughter adn she's currently on her second type of stool softner. So, make sure if it's not workign that you go back and tell your doctor. It's important to nip this problem in the bud now, to avoid complications later in life!

GOod luck!

All the cereals r high in fibre, specially barley.Another way to add fibre in your baby's diet is to add green leafy vegetables in any one meal.At times excess of cereals can also lead to constipation.Alternate her foods with vegetables and cereals.Oh! forgot carrot is also very good.Thrice a week nicely pressure cook the barley seeds with little water and salt, strain and remove the seeds and give it to the baby as a porridge. You can also give her pressure cooked bottle gourd with her cereals(skin peeled and deseeded)mash and give.

Ever thought about switching formulas??? Some are tougher on the tummy than others. My son eats oatmeal and uses Good Start and he is really regular. Also, we give him mostly fruits and veggies. Snacks like cheese will stop them up so give those sparingly.
Good luck.
