No - they tried to do this in Bush's first term and it was defeated - persistent little devil, isn't he? But as much as it smacks of fascism, you should know that George Orwell declared that meaningless due to overuse, back in 1946. See link below, scroll halfway down. Right-wing extremism by any name is dangerous (I prefer to call the modern version "corporate statism") and since it does seek to silence opposition, it must be rejected before it becomes too powerful to be stopped.

US ignorance of global terminology commonly in use worldwide is hardly new nor unexpected. What is new is the openness of the manipulation of key phrases and phraseology within the media that orchestrate the public toward a predetermined acceptable internalization of the term's definition. We are barraged by newspeak and doublespeak telling us what is happening in the world and what to think about it. We are even told what words mean. We, consumers of corporate media news, willingly self-incarcerate ourselves within the virtual corporate re-education camp called television.

The brilliance of the American Propaganda Matrix is that it enables a covert nobility to rule behind the guise of a "federal republic". With virtually no open acts of violence or totalitarian measures, a small fraction of the population in the United States maintains a vast majority of the world's wealth and power by ensuring that "their people" are elected and appointed to the key positions in the US government. Living in the delusory American Propaganda Matrix, many poor and working class Americans contentedly go about their lives as the "freest people in the world" enjoying the fruits of "sublime capitalism". In the American Propaganda Matrix, the American Way is The Way, and there is no room for critical evaluation. Those beguiled by the American Propaganda Matrix will tenaciously adhere to their delusions, regardless of who suffers or dies as a result.

Unfortunately for those in power in the United States , the American Propaganda Matrix has a "virus". In fact, as a free lance writer publishing on the Internet, and as a proponent of social justice, I am a part of that "virus". The "virus" consists of activists for peace and social justice who are attacking the "program" which manipulates Americans into believing in the false construct of the US as a benevolent world power with political and economic systems which the world "must" embrace.

Our government is slowly destroying our constitution by removing checks and balances for one.
Our free press is all that stands between corrupt and dangerous government and the peoples rights under that constitution.
The media should be as diverse as passable to counter this cancer upon us.
