Emphatically...this time frame was when music was still considered a liberal art and not industrial product. Production values were great, even the eccentric had a voice and MIDI existed but ProTools and other mix software didn't reduce all music to beats, samples and homogenized mediocrity.
U2
Peter Gabriel
Kate Bush
The Cure
The Police
Talking Heads
Eurythmics
Dream Academy
Elvis Costello
Nick Lowe
Dave Edmunds
The Cars
New Order
etc

Yes. Very much.
In my opinion, today's music doesn't hold that "classic" factor that most music from the 80s and early 90s have. In other words, so-called "music" today is, generally, like food from fast-food restaurants: Bland, lacking in creativity and limited choices.
I'd pick Annie Lennox over Britney Spears anytime, anywhere.
Just my idea. :-)

Yeah, it seemed like the Corporate whores (Record Companies) back in the day still had some sort of taste level and didn't treat us like the brainless masses that they do today; They don't even *try* to produce real art anymore.

I'd much rather hear pop music from that time frame than the current stuff (i.e. Fergie, Britney Spears)
