What do you think of the controversy surrounding the Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays issue in the US????
Where I work, a customer said Merry Christmas..... and I said Merry Christmas, and I got in trouble because another customer may have gotten offended by my saying Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays?????

I think it's ridiculous! This political correctness crap has gone waaaay too far, in my opinion. Not being allowed to say Merry Christmas is ridiculous! If you look on the calendar on December 25th, what does it say? It says "Christmas Day," not "holiday." Like someone else said, if you can say Happy Easter/Valentine's Day/Halloween, etc. then why not Christmas? What happens if you say Happy Hannukah or Happy Kwaanza instead of Happy Holidays? Do you get in trouble then? If not, then it's discrimination (gee, see how easily that accusation comes out?). I don't get offended if someone wishes me Happy Hannukah or Happy Kwaanza, even though I don't celebrate them; I just say thank you and wish them the same. I think people need to stop looking for offense where there is none and stop all the PC foolishness.

I prefer Merry Christmas. The names of other holidays aren't
changed. Happy Holidays means nothing. There are holidays in July for goodness sake. You can't worry about every person being offended by Merry Christmas. What's happened to freedom of speech. Other people telling you what to say is not right. Happy New Year.

I am not a follower and do not weigh in with all that political correctness C--p. In fact I will say or do the opposite just to tick people off. I say what ever comes to mind at the moment. usually Merry Christmas. If it is after Christmas I usually say
Happy Holidays. which is a combination of the Christmas and New Years. Or I ask if they celebrate Christmas or not. if they say no then Happy Holidays will usually suffice.

Let them get offended. We have been saying Merry Christmas for 200 yrs now. Whats to offend. They need to grow up. Same people no doubt have a tree and are buying presents. I wonder for what. Merry New Year.

I feel for you...I can't believe you got in trouble for that!

If you want something to blast back at them....tell them that 'Happy Holidays' originates the word Holiday from Holy Day...so how is that not offensive?

I'm just trying to give you some ammunition in this!

Merry Christmas to you & yours....and Happy New Year!

It makes as much sense as having a controversy over "have a nice day" remarks -- either "thank-you" or have a screwed up day, the comment was friendly and had nor offensive connotations. I'm one for "Merry Christmas", but if Happy Hannuka , Happy Kwanza is thrown my way the proper and sincere response from your truly is either "Thank-You" or "likewise" (with a smile.). This world is big enough for all of us -- get rid of so dang many frowns, thin skins and self-righteousness.

Merry Christmas! Too bad if someone gets offended! They must have a very easy life if something so trivial as the words "Merry Christmas" upsets them! I can think of hundreds more important things ( gang violence, child molesters etc.) to get on the bandwagon about. Tell 'em to get a life!

IT'S CHRISTMAS, AND EVERYONE SHOULD DEFINITELY HAVE AND SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS! I'm tired of this Happy Holidays stuff! Back to the Merry stuff!
