Abuse requires a level of violence or the threat of violence.

If someone did not put the lid back on toothpaste and the next person ended up having to deal with the dried up lump, the waste and clean up that would indicate that not only were thay infact an @sshole they would be thoughtless and lazy as well.
The inquiry "who is the @sshole?" is not abuse. It is an effort to make sure to punish the correct individual.

An effort to include that statement as abusive diminishes the meaning of abuse and indicates that you have no concept of real abuse.

If the party who had said that had taken that tube of toothpaste come out and smacked it up against your head a few times, now that's abuse.

Now go put the lid back on and apologize.

Cher...right on...

I personally dont think this would be considered verbal abuse on any level, certainly this person has a pieve about tooth paste lids and is out spoken about it. Based on your single line of dialog it was not directed towards anyone. If you have someone screaming down your throat about these sort of things and its ongoing then you have a verbal situation. The previous posts, as with most I see on here, make so many assumptions its almost unbelivable. lol

OMG, what are you people on?!!! Counselling for being grumpy of a morning?! We all have our bugbears especially when it comes to the household and this along with the toilet seat brings out the worst in people. Why not just tell her you don't like that tone ask her not to speak to you like that in the future, if she's ok most of the time can you not just overlook one little incident? If not time to move on and I think it's her that has the lucky escape.

That is nice* compared to what my husband would do! First of all, he would thow the toothpaste across the floor or out the door then a@@hole would be one of the nicer words he would use!

If your not married yet, I would consider it really hard and not cement the relationship to quick. This person needs some counseling along with growing up.

Hardly, but it is certainly a mean way to talk to someone.

That said, you have to be pretty dumb not to put the top back on the toothpaste.

well, it's not nice, but for it to be abuse, it would have to be ongoing disparaging remarks that lower your self-esteem and self-worth. if this is the only comment made, then no. sounds like someone was mad. if it's ongoing and occurs all day, then yes.

People should watch the way they speak to LOVED ones. It seems like people wouldn't dare talk to strangers like that, but just disregard people they LOVE.

It borders it. It certainly isn't nice to speak to a loved one that way.
