You can store information on them of all varieties (photos, music, documents, game saves...) and transport them more easily than say lugging around a computer tower or game console.

Well there are all different types of memory cards, but a common factor is that they are a small card-like object that will store computer memory.
Some of the different types are:
PS2 Memory cards
Floppy Disks
Camera Cards
Phone Cards (Not the proper name for them)
General Storage cards

what it does is store memory. like helps the video cards by storing some of that data. like when something loads it needs a place to put all of that data. having more of that memory or "ram"(random access memory) will makes things load faster that way it doesn't have to choose between files. when you have less ram it makes it have to throw away some data and keep others there for graphics to games and other stuff. hoped i helped you.

putting in simple terms. The more memory a computer has, the more data it can store and or use randomly to run programs. Anything in your computer requires memory to use. Games, browsers, you name it. Without it nothing will work.
