For once Willeke hasn't got the all facts. ;-)

C Schengen visa (the one you would need unless you want to go to the UK or Ireland or to some Eastern European countries) is issued for tourism as well for business purposes.

AFAIK the difference between a business visa and a tourist visa is ticking a box on the application form (purpose of visit). You'll need to go to an interview to the embassy anyway, they will be able to advise you on this matter. It is best to be truthful. (That is were Willeke is right.) A lot of the formalities depend upon your income and whether you have an invitation issued from a business partner.

Best contact the embassy of your country of destination, they will be able to tell you what documents they want from you.

If you are a business man, on a business trip, you should have a business visa.
I do not know which is easier to get but if you are caught doing a lot of business while here on a tourist visa it will be much harder for you to ever get visa to come to Europe again. And as a big part of Europe has a single visa now you would not be able to do any business in almost all of Europe anymore.
