For men and women: Being who you truly are, in spite of any cultural nonsense about what it means to be a man or a woman. Having the core self-esteem to go beyond stereotypes.

I thinjk it's difficult to answer, because what is masculine and what is feminine is just hte way society has taught people what these atrributes are, such as caring, sensitivity is female, aggression and strength is male. But as you see in cultures in different countries, where the women are typically the aggressive, and workers and the males are quiet and look after teh children then you could say for them that is 'masculine' and 'feminine' and it would be different from what the western society defines.

I tend to think that we are all just individuals and we can have 'masculine and feminine' so called, traits in all of us, so I don't really think there is an essence to either.

Femininity and Mascultinity are determined mostly by appearance at first, and then behavior, and accepted social norms. The essence of them: 1) nurturing and protective
and 2) capable of bearing children and capable of siring children. Both men and woman have characteristics of both.

"Self" and being able to live with yourself, as you really are, rather than as others would portray you, or wish you to be.

There is a quote from the Bible that comes close to what I
mean:

"Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load".

Galatians - 6:8

Your basic is men rely on rationality and women rely on their emotions; the ultimate drive to be accepted you might say. This is where you get the Men are from Mars; deep thinkers and women are from Venus; have to talk everything out.
A major difference is our sex drives; in most cases men have the higher drive as most of their brain is dedicated to it compared to the small portion of the women's brain that is dedicated to it.**More to it is, with sex drives aside, is for one to enhance the other, to compliment and to admire of.one to the other.**Edit: How droll a thumb down (rolls eyes)
