many of the problems with xp have been dealt with and so is now a relatively good operating system. Vista will not reach this level of maturity for some time.

I use both Vista Enterprise 64-bit and 32-bit, as well as XP 32-bit professional SP2

I also try to use 64-bit Vista at work; but have a multitude of problems (which is fine, as I run a non-SOE PC, testing future O/S and Applications).

I run Vista 32-bit at home on PC and Notebook.

Fewer programmes run properly on the Vista platform that the XP one.

Many programmes that run in 32-bit version of Vista do not work or have drivers for the 64-bit version.

I use HP scanners and printers with no problems in either of the 32-bit versions. And my home PC and notebook are 64-bit CPU chips which run far better in 32-bit O/S.

Remember though, it is not Vista that is not compatible with the software; but the reverse. Bill's mob (Microsoft) has developed an operating system for other application builders to take advantage of. Redmond can't help it if their attempts to rule the world by O/S domination haven't succeeded.

iTunes does not work on Vista???? RUBBISH. We have two users set up on the PC and two others set up on individual notebooks all using Vista Enterprise 32-bit.

With iTunes, the default location is within the Users "My Documents" hierarchy, so there cannot be a clash, and you can actually run a shared location - NO PROBLEM AT ALL.

Overall, I prefer Vista 32-bit O/S now that I have gotten away from the 64-bit version

You will need to look at any peripheral equipment to see if it is Vista compatible or if updated drivers are available. This would include printers, scanners, etc. Additionally, some software will not work in Vista such as certain versions of accounting programs, games, etc. It depends on what you want to use with your operating system. If you need to ask about a specific program or device, add some details and someone should be able to provide further information.

XP is by far more compatible with equipment that you already own. Vista has a long way to go. Especially with printer sharing.

I personally had to buy a new scanner and a new printer (both HP) because Vista would not work with them even though there was nothing wrong either.

HP just decided not to make drivers for Vista. My new scanner and printer are NOT HP.

I provide IT support at work and am responsible for purchasing. I won't allow any Vista on my network. (at least until service pack 2 comes out)

Vista has higher memory and graphics card requirements than XP.

there are several softwares like tally 7.2etc. which don't run properly on vista. Further several software cos. have still not updated there softwares for vista. Lastly, whichever co. is increasing compatibility of there softwares to vista are not improving any other software feature save compatibility & are charging more just for this reason.
So rigourously believe that xp is better is every field be it is cost, price of other softwares and compatibility.
P.S. --- For persons using pirated softwares--- Cracks of several softwares are not available (for vista).
