That crime doesn't pay?

Victimless crimes pay very well and clog our jails. Crimes in which someone is harmed, or their rights are endangered, or their property is misappropriated pay poorly and go unpunished, particularly when perpetrated by a person in the minority. Then the rest of us are to blame because he/she turned to crime out of desperation and in reaction to our economic success.

We should make certain that the cost of major crimes rises significantly, especially hate crimes, crimes against children, rape, murder, crimes of passion, and also criminal acts brought about greedy and selfish, profiteering government employees at the expense of the public taxpayers. Then I would say crime does not and would not pay. At times, celebrities and high government officials (namely many in the Bush administration, including Cheney) are cut too much slack, run free, and actually should do prison time just like any ordinary citizen.

I believe that crime, unfortunately, does pay....

If only for a short run...

Deffinatley. It might "pay" in the short term, but the criminal is always the one who pays in the long run.

I don't know. It wouldn't pay for me because I have a conscience that isn't for sale, but for people who are sociopathic and/or get away with it, I'm sure it does pay.

Yep. Even if an evil person never gets their 'just desserts' here on earth, they still have to face God when they die!
