BABY VICKS
BUT RUB IT ON HIS FEET & PUT SOCKS ON HIM AFTER.
MAKE SURE YOU RUB HIS FEET WARM FIRST.
NO DAIRY PRODUCTS AS THEY WILL CAUSE MORE MUCUS.

is the cough dry and like a dog or seal barking? It could be croup. Its very very common in children and nearly always gets worse during the night. If you have a cool mist humidifier then use it as this will help. Or put him in the bathroom with you with the shower turned on to create steam for him to inhale. A little baby vicks on his chest won't hurt either.
Other than that, croup is usually always viral I think and therefore unresponsive to antibiotics. Its more of a waiting game and should get better in a few days but they still need to see a doctor.
http://www.drgreene.com/21_1063.html - try reading this to see if the symptoms match.
Otherwise if the coughing is not stopping at all and his breathing seems laboured then take him to the ER. That is why they are there.
If it happens to be croup and you take him to the ER, don't be surprised if the coughing settles down on the way as cool night air helps to open the airways.
If he doesn't have a fever he probably doesn't have pneumonia but get him checked out regardless
good luck

your baby could have whooping cough. you are uptodate on his vaccine right? I would try some euculyptus oil in his water for a bath, and try some vapour air mist you can buy in the store. Dimetapp makes symptoms worse not better. I used homeopathic medicine and my baby got better less than a week. If I were you I would try giving him a little bit of honey to take for his cough, and get some fennel seeds and boil it in the water and give him that. Don't give too much milk, milk makes more mucus. Give him chicken noodle soup, and lots of vitamin c. Oranges, apples. etc. If you have to give milk, give goats milk. Its makes less mucous in the body. Sometimes a cough like that can start to affect his breathing. If this goes on long enough and you start to hear a rattling sound, you need to take him to a hospital because it can go bad from there. Go to the doctors but also try herbal remedies. You can go to any natural health shop and find alternatives. Your babies immune system will get stronger and will prevent this from happening again and again. But do your research, and don't give too much medicine to a child that young. Good luck!

Aw poor girl. My daughter had a horrible yeast infection at about a year old and I was instructed to apply Lotrimin and Costisone cream. And let her go naked if she's napping or playing in one place (be careful though ;) ) Yogurt with active cultures are a must, I also know that cranberry juice is good to drink when dealing with yeast infections and UTI's.

you may need to get him checked for possible asthma! usually an asthmatic will cough severely to try to clear the mucus from his lungs! for the time being as long as he is coughing this bad do not give him milk or anything like orange juice that has acid in it. keep him on weak tea or water or kool aid. anything that isnt dairy or acidy. humidify the room. get him a drs. appointment today and let them see if this is just a bad cold or asthma that may be developing!!

Why are you asking this on Yahoo? Get that baby to the doctor first thing in the morning!!
In the meantime, try warm steam. Go in the bathroom and turn on the shower and let the room get full of warm steam, and sit in there with him. I've done that myself when I had a chest cold, and it's very soothing.
