1 - work on the stress, it can literally kill you

2 - make a ritual of going to bed -- no computer or TV for an hour before, take chamomile tea or other relaxing herbal, get all your chores done earlier in the evening, take the last half hour to read a book (light reading) by yourself, and then shut off the light and focus on sleeping.

3 - exercise like swimming and yoga will help you more than working out in a gym. Also try some type of meditation, prayer, whatever.

4 - consider melatonin; you start off with one mg and then increase 1 mg until you see it working. If it doesn't work at 6 mg it probably won't. If you get groggy, lower the dosage.

If all else fails, try sleeping pills for short periods of time. I take a very low dose of Ambien sometimes (2.5 mg) and I've never gotten "hooked."

Melatonin has worked really well for me. (you can find it in almost any grocery store or drugstore and it's over-the counter and really inexpensive.

Also, sominex, which might make you a little groggy in the morning, but it works.

One thing I discovered lately is having the room completely dark. Makes a huge difference for me. Maybe get some of those eye covers if you can't avoid light coming in.

Also, it never hurst to get some good exercise during the day (but at least 4 hrs before you try to go to sleep.

Avoid all forms of stimulants, namely Caffeine. Caffeine simply put is your enemy, especially when it comes time to get some rest. It overtaxes your adrenal glands, constantly putting you in the classic "fight or flight" response to danger. When the only real threat, is the caffeine you're putting in your body. Caffeine is secreted by plants as a defense against getting eaten by animals and humans, thus it is a POISON.

Read the book, titled Caffeine Blues, it will scare the heck out of you!!Read the book to find out how to avoid the horrible withdrawal symptoms!

When you finally quit caffeine, you will finally be able to relax!!!
It is in so many foods, chocolate, tea, coffee, ice cream, junk food, etc.

Good luck!!!
