I have always wondered why big companies like Warner Bros and Universal dont just hire a hacker to destroy these websites? Is it illegal to hack a website hosting illegal materials? Or is it too difficult to do?

Yes, it is illegal to hack a web-site which is harmful to you.

In fact, it is illegal to hack any web-site. That means, you need not do any offensive response. Just call police and make a criminal proceeding. If not enough evidence, you get a lawyer to conduct a civil proceeding.

However, government web-site may be an exception. They can trace and also send some codes to lock that site. However, the problem is that how can you say that was the origin. In most case, they are just a botnet.

It is harder than you think my friend. With the advent of people wanting to get free stuff. These piracy sites will crop up all the time. Besides, if the companies would hire these hackers, I think it would backfire. First, they (hackers) could hack into the companies and steal the IPs available to the company. Second, even with a great hacker, these websites will crop up if the first one will go down. These sites will never fade away until these companies can create a systems that can detect these sites immediately. Look at you tube. You Tube has a problem with filtering their sites with illegal content. But there is hope against piracy. But it all boils down to the person who is using the computer. If you don't support it, then, it will not proliferate. Anyway, Happy Holidays my friend! =)

im pretty sure they would be sued for it...hacking is hacking is hacking as stealing is stealing is stealing...and its probably not worth their time...deep down they know if all the sites went down someone would just come up with another way of sharing files and they also know (though they wont admit it) that sharing music and movies etc really does increase sales overall...
