Man that's tough. I think they both have very bright futures in the league. I give the nod to Getzlaf for a few reasons. He's a total package player. He brings an strong physical presence, he's been a winner having won a World Junior championship and a Stanley Cup and he delivers in big games. He was a huge factor in last year's Ducks cup win. I think he's a little ahead of Stastny because of that. I still wouldn't complain if you gave me Stastny instead of Getzlaf on any team I had.

I laugh at the fools who even dare to say Ryan Getzlaf is better! lmao

OK, if you follow stats, let's compare their stats;

Stastny; 121 points in 118 career games
Getzlaf; 134 points in 175 career games

Getzlaf has 13 more points in 57 more games. So Stastny has 57 games in hand to make up 13 points. Also Stastny's career shooting % is 16.5%, while Getzlaf's is only 12.2%. Stastny is 4 percentage points ahead, which is a very wide margin.

I don't know what Getzlaf does, but I do watch the Avs games and I know that Paul Stastny plays on every power play, plays on every penalty kill and plays a lot of minutes 5 on 5 as well. He is a great defensive player, and a great all around player.

The main reason Stastny (at least so far) is the better player: Getzlaf has played with Teemu Selanne, Scott Niedermayer, and Chris Pronger for most of his career, those are 3 great playmaking players. Paul Stastny has not had the advantage of playing with 3 future hall of famers. Name some good players Stastny played with last season. Sakic? He was on his team, but they were never on the ice at the same time (they're both centers). Hejduk? Sure a good winger, but he's not hall of fame material. Brunette? The only reason Brunette had 80+ points last season is because he played with Stastny. Brunette's previous best was only 60something.

As you can see, Stastny has managed to be the better player stats-wise while playing for a much, much worse team. Stastny headlines the powerplay, he kills the penalties, and he's great defensively in his own end too. How can anyone say Getzlaf is better?

Paul Stastny,

This is actually a timely question because last January, Burke offered Getzlaf and a 2nd round pick to Colorado for Stastny.

So, even Brian Burke thinks that Stastny is better than Getzlaf.

If I had the choice to sign only one of these guys, I'd take Stastny hands down.

I've watched around 10 games of each team (give or take) and most of the time Stastny is on the ice, he is doing something that creates/helps create a scoring oppurnitity (spelling) I cant say the same about Getzlaf. but give is 3 or 4 years, who knows. Getzlaf is listed at 6'4 and 211... if he can get to 225-230 and keep his mobility then look out.

Honestly I like Getzlaf because he bring much more to the team than goals. But if I was building a team around 1 player and had to choose between the two, I'd pick Stastny. However, if I wanted a player that could help me in the playoff, I'd pick Getzlaf. That's just me...

If I had to pick one, Stastny. But it's really an irrelevant question, Getzlaf is a powerforward and Stastny is a playmaker.

I don't think a NHL team would take Stasny over Getzlaf given the choice. Stastny will put up bigger numbers, but Getzlaf's overall game and leadership abilities are much better. He has that championship caliber swagger that his numbers won't reflect.
