media (sports writers who vote for the nba mvp each year)

2007-12-25 18:53:43 · update #1

im just ridiculing the MVP award handed out by the NBA and how stupid the arguments the sports writers who vote for the MVP award come up with...

Shaq in his 15 or so good strong years has won 1 mvp award through 5 finals appearances and 4 finals wins and 3 finals MVPs...Steve Nash has made 0 finals appearances and has 2 MVPs..

mind games

you and I know the media hates Kobe and they'll never hand him any award

Lebron went thru the East...keep that in mind

In the first round he didn't get to face Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler

In the second round he faced a hoblled Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson who just came off ankle surgery in the middle of the season and Vince Carter...that team was banged up as they had Clifford Robinson and Nenad Kristic out for the season

in the east finals he put up one helluva show in that 48 point performance against the pistons....gotta give the credit where its due...but if it weren't for the bailout passes he made to Donyell Marshall and Daniel Gibson in the critical momnents of a couple of games, he wouldn't have gotten past Detroit...besides we all know how unfocused they were

Of course they came up against true competition in the spurs in the finals and just got whooped

Yes he got his team to the finals...but always remember the path

Several GM's agreed after the finals that Cleveland would've prolly lost to all 8 west teams in a 7 game playoff set

Cathy I was answering a question about one of hte answerer here...he said if he takes his team to the finals ,he deserved the mvp

Consensus around the league is any superstar (Nash, wade, billups, kobe, duncan, carter, etc) would've done the same if they had the same path to the finals as Lebron

I think Kobe, his fans and other Laker fans have realized that he's just not gonna get the MVP award and know winning it all (championship) would trump any other award in the league

I love LBJ: look for the past 3 years Kobe has been putting up jaw dropping statistics but he wasn't considered MVP because the media came up with the argument that his team's recrord isn't good enough

same should be applied here...they're floating at the bottom half of the playoff eastern conference....dear

KG had Stephon Marbury and Chauncey Billups on his team in separate occasions in MInnesota what did KG do there?

where was KG's leadership then?

Kobe had a right to demand a trade...quickly after the "kobe video"...Bynum got off his butt in his home in NJ and got a trainer and called up Brian Shaw and Kareem and started working his butt off

Kobe's comments clearly lit a fire...rememember Phil Jackson has publicly stated several times that Bynum has poor work ethic...thats the reason why the kid ran out of gas last year when Kwame Brown went down and he had to handle major minutes

Of course, winning cures all...what did ya except?

Kobe has probably only 5-6 years of all star quality play left in him

Lebron has at least another decade...he hasn't earned the right to demand anything just yet

im sorry but i have no idea what you're talkin about lol haven't heard of the episode what you're talkin about it

besides its the all star game...players goof and mess around all the time...so ya never know whaat context kobe meant

you mean the same cavs team that won 5 out of 6 when Lebron was out last year?

Yea the Lakers won a couple of games to begin last year without Kobe but how bout losing to Milwaukee without Mo williams and Michael redd and the New York knicks last year when kobe was suspended?

Lebron will receive a good number of MVPs once Kobe begins his decline in terms of explosiveness, speed, health, and stamina. I just don't think LBJ will necessarily "steal" any from kobe. He'll have earned it. Let's face it, he's a very very good player. If i had to choose someone to replace kobe as the most skilled and talented it would be Lebron. I do agree with you that it is horribly shameful that Kobe will probably never be awarded an MVP because the media and many people in sports don't want to reward someone that they personally and simply just dislike.

They love lebron, though, because he doesn't have the rough edges that kobe does. He is still clean-cut, media-friendly, likes to pass the ball, and gives the casual basketball fans the only thing they like to see - dunks. But let me tell you, the first time Lebron screws up (like kobe did when he cheated on his wife), the media will just as quickly turn on him. And just like that, LBJ will be hated the same way kobe is by people who just don't want to appreciate a person's greatness on the court without bringing up personal opinions on their character.
It really is a shame when you think about it. Even Doc Rivers passionately admitted last week that it's sad that people try hard to tear Kobe down instead of watching and awarding his greatness while we still can before he retires.

You know, anyone that follows NBA basketball knows that Kobe deserved the win MVP at least twice out of the past 3 years. You can base that on however you define the characteristics of an MVP player. If you want to give it to the guy that is most valuable to a team... is there any question it's kobe? If you want to give it to the guy who is most talented... kobe for sure deserved that in the 05-06' season. A lot of people talk about how it should go to a good player with good leadership ... that's just a crappy criteria because there are plenty of excellent players who try extremely hard to be good leaders (Elton brand, Pau Gasol, Paul Pierce, Jason Kidd...). Yet they give it to a good point guard two years in a row because his team is doing well, but probably doesn't have to put as much effort into leading a team as say Carlos Boozer or the others that I named because he is situated with a great supporting cast and an even better coach.

If the NBA would give an award to LeBron it's worth it why? This is a one man team. Everone knows how the Cavaliers sucked when James was out upon returning they won games again. A true testament that he is indeed the Cavs MVP.

Well nobody knows for sure how many MVPs he would have but if he could continue what he is doing probably 2 or more awards.

Hope this helps.

To AJ: Is LeBron not in a injury prone team? I believe they got the same recipes for a team but James wasn't complaining...

An aging center, one disapperaing act member (Marshall), an injury prone back-up (Hughes, to think he was brougth there because the Cavs bigwigs thought he could ease out James offensive load).

And I guess that is the same thing why Kobe earned the ire of the veterans in the 1998 all-stars. He demanded too much.

"Get out of there Karl (Malone) I want to defend Mike (Jordan) one-on-one".

If I was Karl Malone, I'd really get angry because prior to the year the 1998 all-stars happened I was reigning MVP of the league. And to think Kobe is just a second year-veteran. Now I know now why LeBron can't ask too much...

Another thing is that the Lakers wasn't a one-man team at all. They won games even without Kobe. And now Kobe is understanding why Kupchack had these pieces together. Now that it is working... The Lakers proved him wrong. The Cavs meanwhile lost all their game without James... See the value?

Don't get me wrong... Kobe, I think is the best player today, that is individually speaking. His skills is way exeptional than James himself, problem is he burdens himself too much by taking all the job. Now he is realizing that it would take a LeBronesque play for him to elevate the game level of his teammates as leader I think he has grown. When he said this summer he needs competitive teammates, I felt he has grown. Now he knows that his one-man-showmanship isn't going to work. It's not only him, he has teammates. There is no "I" or "Me" in basketball. Basketball is a team sport.

none, the undeserved ones goes to Kobe
and it's not just the media, it's everyone outside of LA
A MVP gets his team to the finals at all cost, do you see Kobe doing this with the Lakers this year?

I do think the cavs got very lucky last year, and they shouldn't got further than the first round, but that team would never be in that position without James, he made it happen
Kobe should get it if he does the same, but the media and the people who vote has James and KG locked for a MVP this year, so Kobe will probably not get it.
Kobe is a great Player(Top 2or3) but he has not shown great leadership, that is one thing he lack, but he is improving on that this year

Players like KG, is a great leader on and off the court, support his teams, and has great individual stats along with team stats.

Kobe demanded to be traded, and you already know what he said about Bynum at the beginning of the year, and publicly said he can not win a championship with this team, only when they started winning, he changed his mind, this is bad on his part.

KG and Maubury was a great duo, but Marubury had money on his mind and left for more money else where, but it's not like anyone can do much with him anyways, you're right, KG didn't do much then, but he never complained, never ask to be traded, and always supported his team, wining or losing
he was always there for his team. Kobe is always more worried about himself, getting his stats, or getting own ring without shaq, etc. He looks out for him not his team

In my opinion, he will play out the rest of the year, opt out of his contract, and go somewhere else

Notice how everyone is saying Lebron is a one man team? Hello kobe's been taking his team to the playoffs twice even when he had Smush Parker and a Injury prone team.

You are going on and on about post season performance, why? The NBA MVP is for the regular season alone. So all that talk about who Lebron faced in the playoffs is pointless in a discussion for MVP.
