Fans of Radiohead are overly-political bloggers who hate the world, and are a bit snobby. this may be true sometimes, but not for me.
Tool fans must be potheads, drinkers, and/or trashy. and they wear that ugly, black outfits with those chains and have peircings or dyed hair or something. See, guy tool fans seem to wear whatever, but girl tool fans always seem to have that look.
not valid for me either.
and the indie music ... seems i must have a bob haircut with side-sweeped bangs, indie glasses (which i do have..), colorful eyeliner, with a hoodie with a bright colors and a bold pattern or stripes or something. this is also the look of any art student.

Well a lot of people might be surprised to hear that most people who know anything about punk don't look anything like the Exploited. When that outfit was shocking or the slightest bit original maybe it was cool, but it's become basically exactly what punk was orginally opposed to, a uniform, a set of standards to be adhered to. Don't get me wrong, if that's really the image you want, go for it, but no outfit makes you punk or gives you credibility.
And Smiley, one of the two of us was missing the point of that post from our "leader". Because I've expressed the same frustration with certain people thinking that just because they like music with complex guitar parts and whimsical storylines and really really long and often conceptual songs and albums that their taste is superior to someone who likes music centered around simple riffs and and a different ideology. But like I said, certain people, not all fans of prog have lofty opinions of their taste, but those few loud ones who do can get very irritating, and so I agree with the "leader" on this point because I don't believe he was making a blanket statement. And I don't think that not liking a certain genre makes you any less of a rock and pop fan, not everyone's taste is all-encompassing, what's silly is to say that you don't like any of a certain genre and never will, because no genre actually adheres to it's "rules (not all punk is simple and fast not all prog is complex and long). But if 90+% of a genre bores you to tears then I don't see any problem with avoiding it, some things just don't fit a person's taste.
And especially with the asker of the question in mind I want to make sure it's clear that I have nothing against prog fans, especially (most of) the ones on this board.
Oh, and I hate hearing people say "The Sex Pistols were just a boy band!!!!" because it's BS. Having a manager that gets you publicity, puts together a few outfits, and steals all your money hardly makes you a boy band. And up until the final months their outfits were all homemade DIY things anyways. They wrote their own songs, performed them live (very well), and used the opportunities they got in the public eye to get their own ideas across. I honestly have no idea how people come to the conclusion that they were "manufactured", unless you actually believe what Malcolm McLaren says, even though everyone who has ever met the man has gone on record saying he's full of s**t.

I'm a fan of rock, hard rock and some metal and I think there are some stereotypes about the level of intelligence of the musicians. There are quite a few people who believe that rockers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed...in fact, they think they are involved in that segment of the music business because that is all they are capable of doing.
This stereotype is so wrong on so many levels. People who believe this obviously have no idea about the intelligence it takes to not only perform music, but to compose it and manage a band as well. They are also unaware of the level of intelligence of some of the performers in this group - Bad Religion's Greg Graffin, The Offspring's Dexter Holland, and Brian May are just a few rockers who have distinguished themselves academically. And there are many more out there.

Anyone that thinks MCR is a real Goth band is an imbecile. [I'm by no means calling you an imbecile MCRchick - unless you also hold that view].
GN'R fans; I really don't know. I guess many people think that we're all whiny so and so's - complaining about Chinese Democracy. But from what I can see, /most/ fans of the classic line-up couldn't give a toss about the new line-up or this album. That's the only stereotype I can think of for them...
Gothic music; apparently all goths or people that listen to Gothic music are depressing, morose and just generally dark. I won't lie and say that I'm never like that, but many Goths that I've come across seem to be quite happy and generally very friendly people - sure a lot of them wear black but that shouldn't have depressing connotations...bleh.
Yeah.. I'm not good at this, hehe.

Ok I'm probably going to get into trouble for saying this, but I "was" a Creed fan and people automatically assumed I was a Christian because I liked and listen to Creed.
When Creed first came out back in the early 90's I didn't even know Stapp was singing about god. I don't believe the members of Creed were ever trying to be a Christen rock band but alot of people thought and still think they were.
So my answer is Creed. Just because you listen (or listened) to Creed means your a Christian. That is not true. Although now more people would probably think you just have bad taste...lol just kidding, actually I'm still a creed and Alter Bridge fan. Stapp's latest album is not good, in my opinion.

I often get the feeling that people view fans of groups like Pavement (Guided By Voices, Sonic Youth, early Folk Implosion, the Matador music scene) with an appreciation for the low-fi thing are a bunch of stoner art fascists who blindly hate everything, but would think it was a huge breakthrough to listen to a group fart into a microphone for an hour so long as it was done by someone Pitchfork respected. Suprisingly, I have actually met people like this, but it's a ridiculous steriotype.

Mornin Sarah. Several of My favorite bands have tons to stereotypes attached. According to some...
Black Sabbath are evil Satan Worshipers.
Led Zeppelin are Satanists who sold their souls to the devil in order to attain fame.
Pink Floyd are for potheads and just fit for druggies in general.
And, of course, Mick Jagger is gay and so is anyone who listens to The Rolling Stones. Because apparently they are a "gay" band.
Does this silly stereotyping annoy Me?
Yep, pretty badly actually.
*Edit*
Actually...I kinda fit the Heavy Metal Stereotype in ways
I have the long hair and the tats. And I wear leather.
Not a Satanist though..I'm actually a Christian
Cinnamon
Although I don't consider Myself goth, and never have. I actually wear black an awful lot......lol
Whoa....Shane & Icon..Hiya fellows

Well, as a Classic Rock fan, including Led Zep, Jethro Tull, and Fleetwood Mac in my top 4, I fall into the stereotypes of :~
Hippy
{I may sometimes have a Folk-Rock Gypsy look, but I'm no hippy! No 'free-love' for me!}
Druggy
{I'm *very* against drugs}
Beer-guzzling, leather clad, tattooed bikers
{well, I have the *very, very occasional* beer. I do like classic motorcycles ~ though have never been on one. I'm saving up and searching for a proper classic bikers jacket. And I'm working on a couple of tattoo designs}
I'm just *me* people. Deal with it!
