A galaxy like ours has about 10^11 stars (100 billion). Estimations by Hubble Space Telescope deep field images come to 10^11 galaxies. So in total there are about 10^22 stars in the universe.

There are at most 8479 stars visible to the naked eye from sea level.

This is insignificant compared with the 300 Billion stars in our galaxy alone, and the trillions and trillions of stars in other galaxies, all of which require telescopes or other devices to observe them.

this is a very intresting question.i've done research on this before.NASA says that if you can count 1 star per second,so that gives you 60 stars per minute it would take 2006 years to count all the stars in our universe(we are in the milky way)
outside our universe there are still a lot of others.
do yourself a favour and visit the website of nasa.
you'll be amazed what you discover there

With good seeing conditions and good eye sight, you can make out about 5,000 ~ 7,000 individual stars with the naked eye. however NASA says that there are "zillions of uncounted stars"
