at one point, I either ask or am asked to dance by a younger woman (I"m a guy). I dance with this woman, there is no sex, no dating nothing but normal dance touch and hold posturing.
Turns out this young girl is underage. Say 15 yrs.
Am I guilty of some kind of inapproprate conduct in this situation? State of Calif since they seem the strictest on issues like this.

So, an adult male, would be wise NOT to dance with ANY women who appear to be underage?
Interestingly, I am a skilled dancer and frequently am asked by young women to dance and help them learn. I do some teaching of dance and am happy to help but .....? I have always wondered about this.

In legal terms no nothing illegal happened.

By law you can date a person under the age of consent as long as no sexual act takes place between the two.

Meaning a 25 year old could legally date a 13 year old and as long as there is no sex between them then there are no laws broken. Now kissing could be considered lewd conduct with a minor it all depends on how the local law looks at it.

I am in no way condoning this just explaining it. in your case just dancing with someone of that age while it would turn out creepy no laws would be violated

I live in California. I don't think you can go to jail if that is what you are asking, and it would depend on what type of dancing you were doing as to whether or not it could be interpreted as being inappropriate or not. I think i would be careful about dancing with minors..even if they do the asking.

If it is done out in the open and no lewd conduct occurs, it should not be a problem. Otherwise father-daughter dances would be illegal. Everybody dances with everybody at wedding receptions.

I don't know California law . . . but, my suggestion is that -- unless you're in a dance studio, and you're teaching the underage person -- you probably shouldn't be holding anything with them.

No, not at all.

I can't believe you're asking this question... what is this lawsuit-happy world coming to?

No, no sexual contact, no assault, no battery, so a normal dance is fine.
