all the rest just wannabes.

In football, Jim Brown set the standard for all that followed. Even OJ was another wannabe. Jim didn't just run he punished defense until the avoided him. He would hit them, hurt them, drag four at a time across the goal. Nobody else could do that. He was strong as plow horse and hard as rock. Somebody you don't mess with on or off the field. It is all documented.

Most punishing running back I ever saw play the game was Earl Campbell... He was absolutely a bull. After a game one afternoon,, a sports writer made a comment to Bum Phillips.. "Coach,, Earl seem to get up very slow today.. (Phillips).. Yeah,, but he sure went down slow too.. didn't he" But, yeah,, Jim Brown was the guy everyone wanted to be like.

just wondering if the real jim brown is behind this question, trying to get an ego boost. just kidding. it sounds like something he would say though. but to answer your question, YES. he is the one that all the others are compared to. he set the standard for smith, sanders, simpson, and the rest. the only other back that i can think of that could run the ball, hold on to it, and punish the defenders is earl campbell. if i could pick an all-time football team, jim brown would be my starting back. no questions asked.

Arguably the greatest athlete to play the game....his best sport may have been lacrosse and he is an uncrowned Heisman Trophy winner after his senior season at Syracuse, when the voters for that overblown award tossed it to Paul Hornung, who was a good player on one of the worst Notre Dame teams to that point in college football history.

Walter Payton and Barry Sanders are both right up there with the Great Jim Brown... Dorsett, Dickerson, Smith, and Faulk bring up the immediate rear... Bettis, Martin, and Allen after them...

You were great...get over it.

I would take Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson, LT, Walter Payton over you any day...

But that just may be because I watched them play. Never saw your old a$s in a live game...<- friendly jab.

How many championships did he win? And how many did the browns win in the seasons before and after him? I am more impressed with wins than yards.
