While it's a great album The White album isn't a Greatest Hits. As mentioned previously, the 2-Cd sets commonly known as "Blue" and "Red" are Greatest Hits sets. The "Red" set covers the bands output from 1962-1966, and the "Blue" album covers their later years. A few years ago another Greatest Hits album was released, called "#1", but it was a single CD.

No, the white album isn't a greatest hits album. The Beatles greatest hit albums were 2 double cd sets (originally double record set) and The first one was red and the other was blue.

It's one of their later regular releases. I understand their producer George Martin had wanted The Beatles to eliminate the studio chatter, some of their weaker songs, and release this album as a single album but the group wanted it released as a double album. In my opinion, it's one of their more interesting efforts but I also don't believe it's a good introduction to The Beatles' music. It's better for more hard-core fans of the group. There are other collections that make a much better introduction to their music than this album does.
