I had my suspicions about the 8 glasses a day idea. When I made sure to drink 8 glasses a day for many many months...I had to go the the bathroom SO MANY TIMES in one day. And the puffiness from the water retention. I cut salt out of my diet and still retained so much water in my body.
So I trusted my gut feeling and just drank a little less. And viola...no more running to the bathroom every minute. And no more puffy body.
8 glasses of water is a bloody myth

If you read the article, it does not really rebuke that an adult needs about that much fluid per day. It just reiterates that water can be found in many sources, milk, juice, fruits, etc.
I remember that 45 years ago we were told that we should drink 8 glasses of water a day. The beverage companies have been selling bottled water for much less time than that.

The 8 glasses of water per day deal never really was mentioned until relatively recently when major corporations like Coke and Pepsi started selling water by the bottle.
Genius marketing, but the message is useless. As long as you have a drink every now and then you're fine.

8 - 8 oz. glasses a bottle of water would be 2 1/2 glasses I have been hearing that they now say only 5 glasses per day and you actually get most of the water you need from the food you eat.

That is a myth, but it isn't far from the average amount of water people need to consume daily. The estimate didn't take into account the water you get from juicy foods or humid climates. Drink when you are thirsty and you should be fine. Your body should let you know.

Water performs an amazing range of tasks in our bodies. Even our bones are 22 percent water. Each of us needs to drink around two litres of water every day, just to keep everything working as it should. With so much of our lives depending on it, a good source of water is also good for your peace of mind. If you have a nutritious and healthy diet including a variety of fresh fruit and vegies then that will account for approximately 20% of your water intake.
* Eyes, Mouth and Nasal Passages need water to keep them moist and working properly.
* Skin is smoother, softer and more supple when it is properly hydrated. As water reaches the skin last, it will suffer most from dehydration.
*Joints need water for lubrication and cushioning protection in the soft tissues.
*Blood is mostly water. If you don’t drink enough water, the volume of blood can fall. A drop of four percent in your blood volume reduces the body’s ability to function by 33 percent.
*Kidneys need water to flush toxins and waste products out of the body.
*The brain is three-quarters water. Concentration, memory and reaction times benefit from proper hydration.
*Muscles need oxygen. Drinking enough water helps the blood transport oxygen and other valuable substances.
*The Heart is cushioned by water. If you don’t drink enough, your blood can become thicker, making the heart work harder and increasing the risk of dangerous clots.
I read the link you provided but, seriously, do you want to take the risk?? Each and every cellular function your body performs requires water to smooth the process and make every timely and efficient. Try also reading a book called "The water cure" by a Dr. Batmanghelidj
