This is actually a much more subtle question than it seems. The length of a coastline depends in large part on how much resolution you are using to do the measuring. For instance, if you use a low resolution map, and measure the length of the coastline, you will get a certain but inaccurate answer.

The more detail you include, the larger number of inlets and bays and irregular surfaces you consider, the longer the coastline gets. It was exactly this question almost 90 years ago that led a scientist to begin a mathematical process that foreshadowed the development of fractal math decades later. So, in terms of an actual number, I think the numbers quoted above are fine; but I wanted to point out that this is a subtle and interesting question when viewed in a slightly different light.
