Out there running the kids from pillar to post on both sides of the family. Parents divorced, but logically forced to be together during the holidays (among other times). What a sham! I really feel sorry for the kids. They never asked for this.

Dysfunctional families are now becoming the norm. Society is changing as a whole.

Yes i feel for the kids also . But you can't blame all the divorced parents . You do have some who's spouse decided to leave on their own . My ex left 4 yrs ago .And to this day has not been in our daughter's life . She made that decision on her own . So you say they are being forced to be together . At least they are not at each other's throats in front of the kids . You don't go into a marriage planning on getting divorced somewhere down the line . Things happen . I do agree that i feel for the kids . But like i said at least some can get along with eachother for the kids . Don't know if your married and have kids . Or if this is just the way you feel . But until you live that life u can't judge everyone .

Well, I have to agree with TRISH and staying in an unhappy marriage "just for the sake of the kids" will prove to be a mistake in the long run, EVEN FOR THE KIDS. It's even more shameful to subject them to a life within an UNHAPPY environment which will have a long lasting NEGATIVE effect in their lives and the way they relate themselves to other people. SHAME on the parents who use their kids only as an excuse to remain together, because that will make them (parents) unhappy BUT ALSO the kids as much as you think they don't notice what's going on around them. No, the kids didn't ask for it but at least they will have a happier, healthier life without growing within a disfunctional marriage.

I have not spent a Christmas with my ex since we seperated. I will not. We divide up the time between families. Who are you to talk about any of this?!?! My kid did not deserve this?!?! Whatever. I am finally happy. I am not living in the sham of a marriage at all anymore. Sure its hard on her, but she is also a happy, well adjusted little girl. There are A LOT of people who love her. That is far more important then her parents not being together. Who are you anyways!?!?!

You think? Back before my divorce, we had to run all over the place, too- taking our kids to her side of the family, then to my side.

Now that the divorce is final, half the running around is gone.

But you make one very valid, very true point- the kids never asked for this. One truism I've found in all this mess: No one wins in a divorce.

Sure, you can haggle and quibble, knock $50 off the alimony, bump the child support by $100, but in the end, everyone loses.

Thanks for reminding me, especially at this family time of year. Now I've got to wonder why you posted this ....

The parents can make it better on the kids they just need to make the choice too. I am one to be very fair so my kids feel no unhappiness. We all work together to make it work for them! It is possible I am proof!
