Hi. Could you please tell me where and how I could learn how to play a guitar over the net? I've been trying to find websites on google but apparently they are useless. The thing is I've got a guitar but I don't know how to play it. I don't even know how to read music. I would like to learn how to play it. I've also been trying to find a music piece so that I could play my guitar while trying to read it. even though I don't have a lot of knowledge, I don't even know what and where to tune to at the end of the neck of the guitar. If you know any websites or any advice, please help me. I can't afford to go to lessons. It's expensive.

Hi i will give you some serious advice no silly jokes or put downs
ok your on a budget but you need to take your guitar to a guitar shop and get it set up etc if its electric or an acoustic its no use learning on a guitar thats harder to play than needed the guitar shop will give advice there are many old videos out there as well as dvds even local library's will help but you need some one to show you you may be pressing down on the frets wrong and get buzzing or flat -muffled notes your fingers are going to hurt
if you have any mates that can play guitar sit at the side of them and join in
i will be honest i cant read a single note but i use tabs if i cant work it out and some guy from the 1960`s couldn't read a single note went to england with chas chandler and did things with a strat that frightened the life out of others
reading music properly is a great way but its not a must have
when you start out properly dont be put off with fast runs and power cords hammering and bending etc if you stick at it all this comes later on its better to play slow and with feel than 100 miles per hour shyte with bum notes everywhere
to sum up vids and dvd are great if you have some experience in eyes but get an odd lesson at first take your time and enjoy the greatest instrument ever oh and get it set up properly

I would suggest that you find a human teacher. Check with any local music stores and see if they have a beginner teacher. Sit down and talk with the teacher (if he wants you as a student, he'll take the time to talk to you, but you may have to arrange a time or talk over the phone) and discuss what you want to learn. If you want to learn to read music, make sure he knows that. If he can't teach you to read music, find someone else. A good teacher can show you how to sit and play so that you put the least stress on your body (shoulders, back, fingers), plus he can watch you to correct any mistakes you may be making. It's easier to correct mistakes at the beginning than have to relearn something. If you can't find a good teacher, find some good instructional DVDs. Also, the best beginner books are the Mel Bay Guitar series. They will teach you how to read music and show you where the notes are on the neck of the guitar.
