I would like to go back to school to get a 4 year degree in mechanical engineering. I am really not in a good position to relocate right now and there are no engineering schools in my area, so I am wondering if there are any good online schools for mechanical engineering? Given the field of engineering I don't know if an online school would be a good idea, but has any one ever heard of an online engineering school?

Thanks

There are no good online engineering schools for the simple reason that there are no good online schools.

Most online universities are For Profit corporations that are not respected and cost more than respectible public universities. In my opinion, you would be better off getting a tattoo on your forehead that says "I have a bad education." It will have the same effect, and will be a LOT cheaper.

That being said -- a lot of brick & morter colleges are now offering a lot of classes on-line. Perhaps you can enroll at one of these schools, take a few classes at home & relocate later.
