My friend has an XP Disc.
My computer is currently running windows 98 S.E. With a pentium 2 processor and 128 MB Ram and 2.68 gb free space on C: Drive.
So Can I Upgrade?
And Does it Has To Be A Certain "Upgrade" disc or any windows xp disc. Because i haven't checked for sure, i just know he used it to install Xp. And will it delete my saved documents?

First of all, using your friend's XP CD to install XP on your computer probably violates the EULA.

Second, your PC is not a good candidate for the upgrade. 128 MB is not enough memory, and your P2 processor is too slow for XP.

Sorry to bring bad news. Your Win98SE system may run for many years, that was a very stable platform.

go to computerhope.com...on the website you can actually see what the system requirements are for XP...I think 2.68 gigs are not enough to install the os...and it would run slow since you would be using or80% of the drive for the os...even if you put 512 mgs of ram,,,but check the website and do the math...you would be better getting a new hard drive...like 80+ gigs they're pretty cheap...actually the ram might be more expensive than the hard drive...sdram is not cheap at all...

I went to the site for you...here are the system requirements for XP:....
Windows XP Home / Professional
REQUIREMENTS
October 25, 2001
Computer: 100% IBM Compatible
Processor: 233 MHz or faster processor
Memory: 64MB RAM
Recommend 128MB
Drives: 1.5GB Hard Disk space
CD-ROM or DVD Drive
Sound: Sound Card recommended
Video: SVGA Video Card
Controls: Keyboard / Mouse
operating system: Upgrade requires Windows 98, 98 SE, or ME.
DirectX: DirectX 8.1 Included.
Other: - DVD requires DVD decoder with 8MB video RAM.
- Video capture feature requires 400 MHz or faster processor.

This computer will not run on XP very well at all.

Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Home Edition
• PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended

• 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

• 1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*

• Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor

• CD-ROM or DVD drive

• Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

XP will eat up 128 megs of RAM in a heartbeat leaving you with horrible performance and frustration. Don't do it!!!!!

to upgrade your current os you need an xp upgrade disc. but if your running 98 you'd be better off not doing that because you probably are running old hardware as well incapable of being upgraded to systems requirements.you need alot more hd storage, a faster processor minimum. minimum 256mb ddr ram minimum. 512mb ddr ram recomended

probably not going to work, sorry man.

All I can say is wow. I havent seen someone using 98se ofr along time, maybe 3 years lol.
You dont have the cpu, ram, or space to use XP. just go get cheap computer with vista, it will blow your mind lol. Even the slowest cpus around are over 10 times as pwerful, I dont know how you could have waited so long. Its been 9 year man. holy cow.

u would have to get rid of everything on ur computer first cus xp takes a minimum (well recommended) 10 gb and your computer would be the slowest piece of crap in the world unless u got at leasts 1gb of ram (to run smothly you can run on 500mb) and a new processor

I dont know where Trev (we?)gets that "MS says mimimum of 256 MB" cuz heres what MS actually says:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/upgrading/sysreqs.mspx
Shows 64MB minimum with 128 recommended.
It would still run like a dog on your system even with 512MB of ram(500?). You still have a P2 and probably ATA33 IDE bus as well as old sdram.

No. not with those low specs. Even with a memory upgrade if you did get it on it will be very slow with that processor. Id stay with 98 instead or a new PC.
