A few Zoo's could be justified for the study of animals and to prevent extinction. But for every city to have its own zoo is unnecessary. If the animals were kept in a true habitat that suited their needs it wouldn't be so bad. But I have visited many zoos that only provide cages for animals, and the visitors provide a constant form of stress.

Then boycott the Chinese zoos.

They also regularly kill and eat dog and cat in China.. you going to cry about that, too? Or just the newsworthy articles Yahoo! decides to elaborate on?

Just because one nation doesn't have the capacity to manage their zoos doesn't mean ALL nations don't have the capacity to do so.
The US (and England) both have large numbers of creditable establishments that provide adequate care and housing for endangered species (and also serve as an indispensable reproductive aid) like Tigers.

You're saying it's best to leave them in their own habitat - as if there's even much of that left.
Tigers are endangered for a reason, and that reason is us. Lack of habitat in India due to encroachment by humans, poaching for their fur, etc.
If you can fix the problems threatening them to extinction in their natural habitat, then you'll get a nobel peace prize I'm sure.
Until then - leave them in their safe (and hospitable) sanctuaries we like to call Zoos.

there is nothing wrong in keeping an animal as pet or at the zoo. zoos give lots of space to the animal so that he can roam around and feed him well too.

in wild it maybe much tougher for animal to survive on his own.
