Not necessarily more hours, but making good use of those hours

She is right, up there with the idea of quantity and quality.

It looks only messy to have one hour of that and one hour of this.

It's better to have one same program for a long time.

Say, for me, I got this 100 hr Cypress volunteer program.

Hours don't really matter sometimes. The school may just want to look at what kind of thing you have been volunteering.

Volunteering is a sign of social maturity and does augment your chance to get into a good university.

No, its about quality versus quantiy. For example you could pick up ditches hour after hour, but if you organized an environemental effort, it would be much more impressive.
