Defiantly Steve Irwins (family's) zoo - not far from Brisbane. Amazing place. You'll need all day to get around everything including the shows.

There's a very good aquarium at Mooloolaba, about an hour north of Brisbane. In Brisbane, there is a place called Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. It's a fairly small place, but you can see a lot of native animals there. There is another zoo called the Alma Park Zoo, about 1/2 an hour north of Brisbane. The best zoo is Australia Zoo, which was owned by Steve Urwin and his family (still is owned by his family). It's about 3/4 of an hour north of Brisbane.
Of all the above, I would recommend Australia Zoo. I've been there a few times, and it's great. Underwater World at Mooloolaba is also very good. Maybe you could do both.

Sydney and Melbourne have Australia's top two zoos and the Sydney Aquarium is the best in the country. Brisbane has neither an aquarium nor a zoo but the Currumbin Bird sanctuary on the Gold Coast is well worth a visit.
