Well if I were you I'd look up some things on the internet. Google search + image search some of these things: Scorpion, Scales, Bow'n'Arrow, Heel Stretch, Liberty, Arabesque, Extension Prep, Full Extension, Full Down, Double Down, Cradle, Sponge, Thigh Stand, Single Base, Basket Toss. Just add 'cheer' to the beginning of those words!

Single Bases, in partner stunting, are called hands, just to let you know!

About the weight, to be honest, most teams just take the lightest person no matter how shitty they are. On my teams I choose the GOOD people, I mean they can't be fat ofcourse. Average height 5.0 - 5.6 weight about 95 - 115. Depends on the average size of your team, obviously the flyers are usually smaller than their bases but that DOESNT mean someone who weighs 140 lbs lifting someone who looks 5.

'Main base' owns the stunt, the main base is the person directly under the stunt btw! The 'third' is the person who stands at the back of the stunt. The third calls EVERYTHING!!! Unless they have strep throat and can't talk! The other base is called the 'secondary base'. In the case of basket tosses and basket tosses only! The person who stands in front is called the 'fourth'. Don't say it if your not talking about a basket though! You will sound really weird to those of us who know what we're talking about! If its not a basket they are just called 'front spots' or 'spotters'.

If you want to be on the team that bad, you will arrange everything else in your life around cheerleading. Including any other things you may currently have in your schedule, believe me if the judges/coaches can choose someone who will be there all the time over someone who has to leave early or can't come to the weekend practices they will choose the always free person!

If you want to be a flyer come to try-outs and act like you know everything (even if you don't) about being on top! If they ask you what position you are say flyer don't think about it! if you are really tall though, they may ask you to be a third, even if you are a good top, because thirds are a VERY important part of the stunt and they have to be tall so they can reach high on the flyer in high stunts like extensions, lib's + lib skills!

Hope this helps, if you need anything more just ask or watch some youtube videos or google cheerleading!

BTW - if you watch videos on youtube be sure to put in 'cheerleading stunt' or 'cheerleading stunting' or something similar not just 'cheerleading'. if you just put cheerleading it brings up a bunch of stupid stuff!

Anyway, hope I helped :)

Hate to say but if your dad won't support you, I hope that your mom will. I am a middle school cheerleading coach and cheerleading is not cheap. Of course middle schoolers don't have jobs to pay for camp, uniforms, etc. and even if you could get a job, you won't have time to work and go to after school practices, meetings, and games.... and don't forget assignments. You will need someone to help you pay the costs. Is your cheerleading squad traditional or sport? A traditional squad is the squad that does the pep rally, cheers at games from the sidelines, and may do a half time performance. A sport squad is a squad that travels around the nation competing. Most of the sport squads are co-ed, highly trained, extremely difficult stunts, killer flips, you get the point. Its like the Bring it On Squads. If your school has a traditional squad, all you have to do is have some type of rhythm and get a former cheerleader or one that has already made the squad to teach you. You could go to a UCA camp. They will teach you the basics of cheerleading. I think this will be the best option. If your squad is a sport squad, your chances of making the squad are very slim unless you have had years of gymnastics. Whatever happens, I wish you the best of luck. Keep trying and work hard. Remember Cheerleading is hard work, if it was any easier, it would be called Football!

as for flying. it depends on the rest of the team. so if your like around the smallest of your team you could probably be a flyer. if your taller& heivier you probably would better be a base, front or back.
Most middle school cheerleading teams don't take cheerleading as serious as highschool/ all-star teams.
You need to have good motions, good jumps, really good face expressions, and be loud!

Don't worry about flying right now. Just go to the site below and start working on your cheerleading skills. And sign up at a gym to get some tumbling going.
