I'm not a Republican but at one time I had a lot of respect for John McCain. In the 2000 election he was the maverick. He seemed more honest and independent than GW Bush. But the party didn't want him to win so they -slimed- him.
So what did he do? He forgave them. Then he changed all his opinions and positions to line up with the standard party positions.
This time around all the mainstream Republican candidates all have the same opinions on all the same issues. They are all getting their opinions and positions from the party. McCain is right there among them. This gives people the impression that getting elected is more important to him than having his own ideas, his own conscience.
The biggest issue in the minds of the voters is the war. But none of the mainstream Republican candidates are allowed to criticize the war. This time it's Ron Paul who's the maverick.

Being a veteran, I personally feel that Sen. McCain is an American hero and a decent politician who has voted bipartisan numerous times which shows he doesn't just toe the party line.
But, with that said, he still supports this illegal, "Blood for Oil" war in Iraq and the further reducing of our nation's sovereignty. He is a Globalist and caters more to corporations (ie: the military-industrial complex) & the ultra rich than to the majority American voter, despite the fact that his votes have led to more of these companies either going out of business or moving thier operations to Mexico and China.
My vote (and many, many others) is going for Dr. Ron Paul, I could go on forever touting how great a man Dr. Paul is and his plans for our country, but like I tell everyone, I'd rather you find out for yourself. Just Google "Ron Paul", go to his website or better yet, go to YouTube.com and type in "Ron Paul", sit back and prepare to be awe inspired to hear a radical message of freedom, hope and a return to how our Founders envisioned this country. Don't believe the Poll #s as they only reflect those Republican voters who voted in the last election. Most of Ron Paul's supporters either didnt vote last time around or were Democrats, instead look at the amount of money he's raised (not from lobbyists or corporations), look at almost every state's straw poll, look around town at all the RP signs.....he'll win if you stop believing the BS the media is spewing about you wasting your vote.
Thanks 4 letting me answer your question, do your research BEFORE you vote!

A lot of people are angry at John McCain over his support for campaign finance laws in which he helped make it more difficult for corporations to get their way. ALso he recently sponsered a bill in which all the illegal immigrants in the country would become legal if they learned English and paid all the taxes they owe.
For some reason accomplishing something really makes the Republican base infuriated.

His foreign policy is a mirror image of the Bush administration's. Bush has erred egregiously on foreign policy with critical mistakes in Iraq and such. That is why no one supports McCain.

John McCain sold his soul, when he became a George W. Bush kiss-*** back when he was running against him for the Republican nomination! His straight-talk express had a wreck! I respect his service to this nation, but little else after giving in to George W. Bush and his demands...he made a fool out of John McCain!

For the only good reason to ever not vote for someone: he doesn't share my values. His support last summer for legislation that would have given tacit sanctuary to illegal immigrants has been a wedge with me this entire time.
As for other reasons not to vote for him, I believe he practices pit bull politics. His declaration that he would "make famous" anyone who tries to attach pork to any bill that comes to him strikes me as kind of vindictive. Aren't Congressmen supposed to give back to their districts, lobbying to have roads and schools and parks built for their constituents?
This is reinforced by the manner in which he has attacked Mitt Romney all throughout the primary season. I could shrug that off as just being politics if it weren't for the fact that he's practically holding slumber parties for Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, and most recently Mike Huckabee. He's not attacking Romney to defeat him; he's attacking Romney because he's just plain vicious.
Despite that, I could still support him for president, if I thought his policies and values most reflect my own. They don't, however. There are other candidates who I feel more closely represent me. That is why I don't intend to vote for McCain.

I don't wish to be insulting, but just because you spend 4 years as a POW in North VietNam doesn't make you an expert in foreign affairs. Other than that, John has spent too many campaigns making alot of smoke but somehow igniting no fires. I think people want to move on.

He is not psychologically up to it. The long term affects of being a tortured POW, never go away, no matter how much therapy he may have had, if he had any at all. I would not trust the United State of America in his hands for anything. I believe he is damaged goods, and not trustworthy; like a "Manchurian Candidate".

1 He looks and acts too tired. I don't think he would have the energy to be Pres. He might not even last through the campaign. 2 He is known to have anger CONTROL issues.
We need a president that will stop and think B4 he shoots his mouth off(or a missile).

He got his buddies killed to save his life to start. I do not respect the man. "If you go, I go." Never should a troop sell out the other, which is what he did. This is why many don't like him, and it has nothing to do with how he feels about GWB. McCain is a liar and a cheat and a phony troop. Ugly is ugly, and there is nothing right about this man. You would be foolish to fall for his lies and his so-called patriotism.
