Yes I too would like to know which states they are illegal in. As far as I know it is illegal to practice as a midwife and not be certified (which is the same as a dr. malpractice).

I have a midwife for my OBGYN visits. I won't go to a Doctor because I love my midwife!

I didn't know it was illegal. I know here it in Conn it's not they even give train the some of the hospitals here. In many areas of the world, traditional midwives, renamed "traditional birth attendants" by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other groups, are the only available providers for childbearing women.[

really, which states?

Also does it make a difference if they have some type of certification/nurse practioner type training. While I support midwifes, you wouldnt want just anyone walking around saying they are a midwife.
