It comes from the English Invasion of France where the French when capturing the respected English Archers would cut off the middle finger so that they couldn't shoot their arrows. They needed that finger to pull back the string to fire them. So the English archers at victories would show the middle finger. It became a sign of insult to to the French because the English rubbed it in their face that they kicked but in that war.

It was actually Benjamin Franklin. When he was doing his famous kite and the Key in a lightening storm he was burned pretty badly when lightening hit the kite.

His assistent asked him if he was hurt. So Benny raised his burnt middle finger to show him the injured member.

But the look on Mr Frankilins face coupled with the heavy breathing cause the assistent to misinterprit his employers meaning.

So there you have it a momment in history. The flipping of the first bird.

In my opinion, people that do negative things should not be rewarded or given recognition for improper behavior. I would like to see focus being placed on the good and fame and fortune going to those that are positive role models.

it was british soldiers during because during a war with the french the french used to cut the middle finger off because that was the britaish soldiers trigger finger. The british would taunt frenchmen with it.
