How do I get the courage gem (in legend of zelda:phantom hourglass) that is east of spirit island?

I tried bombing it but that didn't work, and I know there is a chest there but I need some assistance. thanks in advance.

the courage gem is inside that chest. you need to open the chest to get it.

i forget if you need to kill the red guys that are hiding in the grass to make it appear or if it is already there
