Since you mention adding plants (not common in saltwater tanks) I'll assume this is for freshwater.

In either case, it's wise to allow the tank to cycle before you add a lot of fish. The fish produce ammonia in their wastes, and the ammonia is toxic to them in relatively small amounts. Levels of 1.0 ppm are enough to strees them, and even lower levels can be fatal if the fish are exposed for a long enough time. When your tank is cycling, it's building a population of bacteria that will convert the ammonia to nitrite (also toxic in low amounts), then to nitrate, which fish tolerate at concentrations about 80 times as high as the amount of ammonia.

Cycling typically takes 3-6 weeks, but you can do some things to speed up the cycle - use some gravel or filter media from an established tank (this can even be a turtle tank) as long as there are no disease or algae problems. And increase the temperature, as warmer temperatures encourage faster bacterial growth.

Ok 24 hours is ideal.. so if you did it around noon on xma day your good but if you want to be patient like me i let my tank run a 3 week dry course no fish plants rocks yes but nothing other because this give benificial bactiria time to thrive and grow what you want to do is not rush it if its saltwater which ive delt with you need to slow down and look at your situation step one get salinity perfect usually 1.019 1.024 in tropical salt let your wet dry filter run for seriously i know ill get alot of thumbs down but 4 to 6 weeks treat the tank as if it were with fish do your routine water changes dont change filter stuff..... then get live rock then plants and enemonies then fish ... freshwater i love also im more expierinced and successful with this stuff with freshwater you looks at 3 key factors before adding fish... ph is good for your fish then fish you will get with be good within the community and tank size then last your filter always try to get 1 1/2 to 3 times the amount of filtration in freshwater eg..40 gallon freshwater get a 130gallon filter more is better in your case a fluval 405 which i have now and i love it will be your better choice unless you want to recieve a more expencive but better ehieme 2260. tell me one thing though.. do you really need the stuff tomrow or can it wait a little???

two weeks to a month depending on type of fish(6for sea-horses)&water/tank set-up.Always best to be on the safe side
But with hardy tropcals anything from 2days & up.As long as readings&balances are in sinc..up to you(you'r judgement)

If you are talking about saltwater, they recommend one month for the water to be safe. If you are talking about freshwater I waited only a few days before slowly adding my fish. :D

for any tank you have to wait at least a month so the bacteria in the water will grow so it will not kill the fish
