Well, assuming your laptop has a Wireless radio on it, you can easily connect it to your High Speed Internet. You will need to have a wireless router, such as the Linksys WRT54GL. Some Internet Service Providers (ISP: Comcast, RoadRunner) offer modems with a Wireless Router and Switch in one box. But some others will only give you a modem, which do not have the capability to give Internet access to more than one computer - since it only has one network port. An easy way to tell if the box your ISP gave you is a Modem, plus a Router and a Switch, is by looking at the back of the box, and looking for 4 or 5 Ethernet connectors (the ones where you plug the big telephone like cable). If there are 4 or 5, then it's a router/modem/switch. If you see only one, then it's a plain modem.
All that said, you must first find out if the equipment your ISP gave you is an actual Router. If it is, you will need to consult that router guide to get your laptop online. Otherwise, you will need to go to your closest Computer store and get a Wireless Router. They are sold everywhere: Radio Shack, Sears, CompUSA, BestBuy, Walmart, Kmart, Circuit City... you get the point. The best one I would recommend is the previously mentioned, Linksys WRT54G.
In case you still need more help, you will need to gather the above data so that anybody in Yahoo Answers can help you to get your PC online. Post back with the information on your Router, and then we'll guide you through the process... but we need to know which router you have, be it the one your ISP gave you, or the one you got at the Store.
Hope this helps.
