I agree with you totally, except that I just turn the radio off. Starting 26 Dec, the music will improve.

Yeah, the hype does get a bit annoying. Some Christians think so too!
I'm Jewish like you. My coping-strategy is to avoid the radio, the mall, and anywhere else where the relentless barrage of carols begins weeks too early. I make food-gifts for my Christian neighbors whom I really like. Living in the boonies, I actually enjoy the way people's house-decorations light up the solstice darkness.
On Christmas Day, I volunteered to help serve Christmas dinner at a local soup kitchen; that was surprisingly hard work but very satisfying. Then I went home to a great novel I've wanted to read for some time, and the music on a nice CD I got as a Hanukkah gift.

I'm OK with it this year, but I have had years in the past when I just couldn't get up for it. I'm also non-Christian, but I like all the trees and colored lights, and I like the carols, too, but that's probably because I was raised in a church. I usually look for the stations that play Christmas carols soon after Thanksgiving, but the ones I get usually have a lot of variety. Maybe you can find a better one than the one you're listening to. I very much resent the commercialization. I either don't give gifts, give gifts that I made myself, or give donations to charity in my friends names. The last is what I prefer to get for myself. Would getting involved in your religion's celebration of Hannukah make you feel any better? Maybe you could try that. Happy winter solstice to you!

I feel that Christmas is overly commericalized as well. I can tell you that Christmas is about celebrating Christ. This country has just about knocked Christ out of everything. What is next?
