Maturity is being able to predict the consequences of your actions and taking responsibility for them.
Maturity is being able to postpone immediate gratification for the sake of something better later.
Maturity is knowing that everything changes at some point, so do the best you can with what you have at the moment.
Maturity is knowing that nothing is so important that you hurt someone's feelings for it.
And it's knowing when to keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open.

Maturity is shown by actions and a persons way of being able to deal with certain situations . Celebrating a child within and acting childish are two different things.

I say that inner child stuff is load of crap. On another note, "mature" is the word companies say in their employment want ads when they're trying not to break the law while at the same time letting applicants know that if they have nose rings and neck tattoos, they need not apply. I do believe that one's behavior absolutely defines one's maturity, which is why a 50-year-old who gossips is less mature than a 19-year-old who doesn't.

I know many people who are mature by the definitions given her, albeit it is all plastic. They have learned to play the game so people see them as something other than what they truly are. For the most part, this is what maturity has become, the 'act' of presenting a mature front. I say, 99% of all people fall into this catagory of you believe my front and I'll believe yours. In this forum, it is,'whoever speaks the nicest so people like what is said', whether or not what's being said has the least bit of knowledge behind it. Maturity is first and formost. honestly knowing one's self enough to be honest with one's self, without the need to put on airs with others.

Maturity to me is defined by behavior.
It is knowing when to say something or saying nothing.
Helping other people without expecting something in return.
Teaching by example.
Knowing how to have fun, as you put it Sage allowing the inner child to come out.
Above all by treating people with kindness, not using words or gossip to hurt others.

I believe you could pretty well answer the entire question with a yes. Most of us, as we grow up leave childish things behind but there are some that go straight from childish behavior to premature senilism. Too bad, too sad.

Well said Sage... I was just getting ready to go play with the big kids on the play ground in the preschool section!
Mature... not only talks the talk but walks the walk! now lets go swing or play on the teeter-totter!
ROFLMAO
Sorry Sage... I'm tired and it's getting late. I know you are serious! So am I... Thinking out-of-here is a good idea! BTW, if I ever caused anyone any problems of any kind I certainly didn't mean to, it was never my intent. INTENT is an issue that should be taken into karmic account! Mature people don't intentionally do others harm, unless they are ready willing and able to accept the consequences!! Well, good luck to all of you! See ya!

I think that maturity is defined by behavior for sure. I have friends that are older than me and friends that are younger and honestly there is no difference. I think that maturity comes with a persons life experiences. Just because a person is younger it does not mean that they have not been through more tramatic experiences than someone that is older.

I think maturity is defined by behavior marked by wisdom, and experience...If you were to graph it, with impulse as a zero, and reservation as a ten, then maturity would be a constant line at the five point, never being totally reserved, and never reacting strictly on impulse....
