It depends on whether the first main panel has enough amperage volume to handle all the extra that the sub panels add. Just be sure to use proper size wire.

it would be better to add another subpanel off of the main panel as opposed to adding off of your existing subpanel. the wires that feed the existing subpanel were sized for the load of that panel, now you are increasing that load, and it could be too large of a load for those wires. check with your town building inspector, they can tell you what is o.k. and what you state requires, then pull a permit, and they will come out and inspect your work so you're safe. i've done a lot of rewiring in my old house, the kitchen, bathroom, etc. and fixed a lot of previous owners mistakes while i was at it with his help. they don't care if you do it, or hire an electrician, they just don't want to see you or a member of your family get killed because the job was done incorrectly. they charge by the cost of the job, here that's $14. per $1,000. of work or materials if you are doing the work. cheap insurance if you ask me. good luck, have a safe and happy new year.
