St. Nicholas. He was a kind giving man a long time ago, who gave to the poor. Then on a Christmas night he took things like dolls and stuff to people in the night. I believe that is partly where it came from.
Edit: Oh of course how could I forget! The wisemen. That is the main reason. St. Nicholas is where Santa started. lol

It all boils down to one word "paganism" , believe it or not Christmas winded down from the days when people used to worship the sun! Paganism is a form of witchcraft all the way to these rather stupid traditions. But as far as Christmas if you keep it simple and stay within your means, then it isn't that bad. It is nice to spend extra time with your loved ones.

The gifts are supposed to represent the gift of salvation that was given to all who choose to believe.
I have also heard they are supposed to represent the gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Murr given to Jesus by the three wise men.
