My girlfriend and I decided to not have sex before marriage, a commitment we've made to God. I am 43, my girlfriend 33. We have both been married before and each have children. Is this practical by today's standards?

I think that it is great. Yes, it is becoming a very common practice. We are living in a society today that we really need to be smart about having sex with period! but more importantly saving yourself means a covenant is made. I learned that there was a reason why God ordain it this way. Waiting until marriage is a spiritual embarkment that only others like you will understand. Congrats, it will be worth the wait!

Both married and you haven't learned a thing?!?!?! Good luck, once you say "I do" that loving relationship goes out the window. Some people realize that in weeks and get divorced others lie to themselves for years. Soul mates are even destroyed by marriage. Do you know any married couples that are actually still in love!??!?! If you are so committed to what are you doing why are you writing this question on this site?!?!? The truth is that you 2 should be committed!!!

Who cares about if this is practical or not? I applaud the two of you for respecting one another this way, & I asure you that making this kinda commitment to yourselfs & god will only strengthen the bond that you have & you will have something to teach your children when they get ready to marry, as they say, practice what you preach. So, congratulations to you & I hope you have a happy life with your wife to be.

It depends on what standards you are looking at.

Your commitment to God for waiting on sex, is awesome. Don't care if it is practical by today's standard, or not ... what you are doing is so right.

Is it practical by today's standards uhh no!
But if that is what you believe in then that's great but you are 43 years old and both of you have been married before so I don't see the point in waiting your not teenagers anymore!

If it works for you then thats all that matters. I do find it odd that the reason you gave for waiting was a "commitment to God". If this is your reason then why are you asking or why does it matter if this is "practical" by today's standards?

I think it's a beautiful decision, which will make the intimacy that much more special. As for your commitment to God, I think it is very mature for the two of you-- especially recognizing what should come first in your marriage. GOOD FOR YOU!

Practical doesn't come into it. It's a decision that you are making for moral and/or religious reasons. If you want to make that commitment to each other, then it's a good thing to do.
