Also I want to tone up alot on my bottom half (legs and bum)...what stroke would be best for this? (breastroke, front crawl, etc) also how many hours a week would i have to do to notice a difference?

At least 1/2 hour pr day. Breast stroke is a great all around workout.

you need to swim as long as it will take per day to burn more calories than you eat. the only way to lose weight is to either eat less or exercise more. of the strokes that are probably best things like freestyle, back stroke, you can burn 250 - 400 calories in half hour depending on how vigorous the workout.

You know what my sister would go to swim classes 2 days a week and she got alot of muscle in her legs and it only took a month

about an hour and a half every day for 5 days
i recently joined a swim team and ive already lost 5 pounds
and for your legs probably breaststroke

For me butterfly is the best stroke if you want to 'notice' a difference.

UNLESS YOUR TALKING ABOUT INDOOR SWIMMING THEN OH.
BUT OUTDOOR YOU MIGHT GET SICK.
